The "Year of Faith" is a theme year of the Roman Catholic Church from 11. October 2012 to 24. November 2013, declared by the Motu Proprio "Porta fidei" by Pope Benedict XVI on 11 October 2011 (Christ the King). Events were inter alia the 20th Anniversary of the publication of the Catechism and the 50th Anniversary of the outbreak of the Second Vatican Council.
During this time "one should reflect more intensely the faith in order to help all who believe in Christ, to help make their assent to the gospel to be more conscious and stronger, especially in a moment of great change, as it is experiencing humanity actually." [Porta fidei].
The Year of Faith will thus contribute to a new conversion to the Lord Jesus and to the rediscovery of faith, so that all members of the Church are credible and joyful witnesses of the Risen Lord in the world today and gain the ability to indicate the "door of the faith" to the many seekers (guidelines for year of Faith).
